VAPAHCS Nephrologist- 31496

Division of Nephrology

Department of Medicine

Veterans Affairs (VA) Palo Alto Health Care System

The Division of Nephrology in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University and Veterans Affairs (VA) Palo Alto Health Care System seek a nephrologist to join as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the University Medical Line or University Tenure Line at VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS). The successful applicant should have a basic, translational and/or clinical research program related to nephrology. Demonstrated potential (Assistant Professor rank) or demonstrated ability (Associate Professor and Professor Rank) to successfully compete for a research award is a reflection of scholarly recognition in the field.

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line are excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching. Regardless of the faculty line appointment, the position requires excellence in clinical care and clinical teaching. Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) is a tertiary referral center for an area encompassing a large area of Northern California and incorporates all aspects of nephrology practice. The Division of Nephrology benefits from the rich scientific and clinical environment at Stanford, which fosters collaborations with investigators from many departments and institutes. The current research enterprise spans basic, translational and clinical nephrology, in areas including transplant immunology, uremic solutes, kidney stones, and aging. The Stanford Medicine Commission on Justice and Equity recently released its report, which included a recommendation to create a Center for Health Equity Excellence. Candidates engaged in health disparities research or community engagement projects may have particularly unique opportunities for collaboration and support. The successful candidate will also have opportunities for future leadership roles.

The VA Section of Nephrology is an integral part of the nephrology fellowship program at Stanford University, with nephrology fellows active in both clinical and research activities. The successful candidate will be expected to provide mentorship to research fellows. The candidate must have a MD or MD/PhD degree and must be board certified or board eligible in nephrology. The successful candidate will need to successfully obtain a California medical license and meet requirements for appointment to the medical staff of VAPAHCS.

The Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, and Stanford University value faculty who are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates may optionally include as part of their research or teaching statement a brief discussion of how their work will further these ideals.

Interested candidates should submit their curriculum vitae, a letter outlining their interests and the names of three references (who will not be contacted without prior consent) to Dr. Manjula Kurella Tamura, Committee Chair and Professor of Medicine at: http://facultyapplication.stanford.edu.

Stanford is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Stanford also welcomes applications from others who would bring additional dimensions to the University's research, teaching and clinical missions.
