The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is seeking candidates for Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology positions. Candidates must possess a MD or DO (or foreign equivalent), have completed 4 years of an ACGME accredited residency, be board certified or board eligible, and have a Texas Medical license or be eligible to obtain one prior to starting. Positions are also available for candidates with fellowship training in critical care, obstetrics, pediatrics, and transplant.
Individuals selected will provide coverage for general and/or specialty anesthesia, clinical oversight to patients in the operating rooms, assist in the education of residents and medical students and demonstrate leadership skills in achieving improved outcomes for all patients/families at our various sites.
The Department of Anesthesiology is composed of clinical anesthesiologists, anesthesia research investigators, anesthesia residents and fellows, nurse anesthetists, and support personnel including administrative and research support employees. We work together to accomplish our mission of providing the highest quality clinical anesthesia services within the framework of a first- class residency program. We are also actively involved in the educational missions of our Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Allied Health professionals. We provide a full range of anesthesia services from ambulatory surgery to complicated transplant procedures. We have very active cardiac, obstetrics, and pediatric anesthesia divisions. Our pain division provides both chronic and acute pain service. We staff the Surgical ICU with faculty and residents from our department 24/7. We have world-renowned researchers in the fields of critical care and fluid balance, traumatic brain injury, stem cell platforms for lung regeneration, and translational research.
Founded in 1942, our department was the first independent department of Anesthesiology in the nation. Our residency has trained many anesthesiologists who not only serve the people of the State of Texas but also hold academic and private practice positions throughout the country. The Department of Anesthesiology is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and is proud to be part of UTMB, which is fully accredited by the Licensing Commission for Medical Education (LCME) and the Joint Commission. UTMB is one of only three Level 1 Trauma Centers in the greater Houston area. In the last few years, UTMB has expanded from one hospital in Galveston to three additional hospitals in Clear Lake, League City, and Angleton.
