The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH or Mass General) Cardiology Division and the Corrigan Minehan Heart Center are seeking an outstanding candidate to serve as its inaugural Associate Chief of Cardiology for Diversity and Health Equity, providing visionary leadership for MGH’s efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion across the Cardiology Division and Heart Center. The Associate Chief of Cardiology for Diversity and Health Equity should be a visionary and forward-thinking medical leader with exceptional management and communication skills. Focusing on the synergistic missions of maximizing health, knowledge, and potential, and embedding diversity and inclusion into the fabric of academic medicine, this leader will have the unique opportunity to significantly contribute to reduction of cardiac health disparities and improving the quality of health not only for MGH’s patients in the Boston area, but for all those reached by the MGH enterprise nationally and internationally.

The Associate Chief will also collaborate with Equity Directors from other divisions in the Department of Medicine (DOM), a community of faculty who work to advance equity across clinical, research, educational, and community missions, and identify and dismantle structures and policies that promote inequity in faculty, trainee, and patient experiences. Each Equity Director in the DOM reports to their respective Division Chief and to the DOM Diversity and Inclusion Board. The Associate Chief will join MGH at a compelling time of accelerating momentum, sharpened focus, and increasing collaboration and urgency in this work. 

The successful candidate will bring a deep commitment to innovation in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within an academic medical center, and experience fostering meaningful change. A collaborative leadership and mentorship style, and an understanding of the unique needs of historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups will be important to success in this role. The Associate Chief will bring deep and nuanced expertise in issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and will be an active and engaged leader who is comfortable and willing to discuss complex and sometimes difficult topics. Success as a clinician-educator, investigator, or academic leader is essential. ABIM certification in cardiovascular medicine and/or any of its subspecialties is required. The Associate Chief will report to Chief of Cardiology and to the DOM Diversity and Inclusion Board. MGH anticipates that the successful candidate will have an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School (HMS) at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, based on qualifications and experience.
