UTMB is home to the first medical school in Texas, has been at the forefront of educational, research and clinical excellence since 1891. UTMB has graduated more health professionals than any other academic health center in the state. UTMB's John Sealy Hospital in Galveston is home to a Level l Trauma Center, serving a nine-county area with a total population of more than 1.25 million people. UTMB's Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston opened in 2016 and offers private rooms in a patient- and family-centered environment. UTMB also provides services to the adjoining Galveston Hospital for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. More than 80 UTMB clinics at 30 locations serve the rapidly growing Bay Area and Galveston with access to a full range of primary and specialty care. Our Health System continues to grow, with a recently opened hospital in League City (a partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center) and another new hospital at the Clear Lake Campus in 2019.
The Pathology Department at UTMB has a very collegial environment, and we collaborate closely with our clinical colleagues. We have several pathologist-led Diagnostic Management Teams (DMT’s), for which our department is well known. We prioritize the educational mission of UTMB, and our faculty have many opportunities to teach residents, fellows, medical and graduate students. There are many opportunities for collaborations with basic scientists and clinical researchers within the department, as well as the rest of the medical center.
Faculty Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine
UTMB is seeking a faculty physician to serve as Medical Director of the Transfusion Medicine Division. Responsibilities of this position encompass a wide range of clinical duties including therapeutic apheresis, participating in diagnostic management teams, teaching residents, fellows, and medical students, as well as other scholarly activities. Administrative responsibilities include oversight of policies and procedures, quality assurance and performance improvement programs of the blood bank and transfusion services.
Candidate Requirements:
- M.D. or D.O. degree.
- Board certification in Transfusion Medicine.
- Ability to obtain an unrestricted Texas State Medical License.
- U.S. Citizenship or Employment Authorization to work in the U.S.
