Microbial Sequencing and Virology Medical Director/Clinical Pathology Faculty Position

ARUP Laboratories, Department of Pathology, University of Utah School of Medicine

The University of Utah (U of U) is seeking qualified individuals to apply for Medical Director of the Microbial Sequencing and Virology sections within ARUP Laboratories.  These sections offer diagnostic consultative services with comprehensive testing for organism identification and antimicrobial resistance detection.  In addition, the Division has both ACGME- and CPEP-accredited fellowship programs in Medical Microbiology.  More information about ARUP and the Clinical Microbiology Division can be viewed here (https://www.aruplab.com/about).

Responsibilities of the Medical Director include scientific and regulatory oversight of the clinical laboratory including test development and quality improvements.  The position requires collaboration with other faculty and staff in the Division to advance the clinical, research, and educational mission of the U of U and ARUP.  There is an expectation for teaching and oversight of rotating residents and fellows.  Additionally, applicants should have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and be willing to work closely with various clinical services and ARUP clients. The successful applicant will hold an academic appointment, at a rank commensurate with experience, in the Department of Pathology within the U of U’s School of Medicine.  Relative distribution of research, teaching, administrative duties and clinical responsibilities will be tailored to the applicant’s experience and career goals.

Candidates must have a M.D., Ph.D., or M.D. / Ph.D and be board-certified or board-eligible in Medical Microbiology by either the American Board of Pathology or American Board of Medical Microbiology. Significant clinical experience with laboratory-developed molecular diagnostics for viruses, metagenomic sequencing and molecular data analytics are strongly preferred.
