Our Medical Affairs team advances patient care by engaging in scientific exchange with external medical experts and industry professionals ensuring the scientific value of our products is realized. We engage and train internal employees to ensure that they thoroughly comprehend the science behind the medicine and review further unmet medical needs to bolster collaboration and further differentiate our portfolio. 

The Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Manuals reports to the AVP, Global Scientific Medical Publications, and manages the Manuals Department. The EIC has primary responsibility for the

  • Content and digital publishing of the Manuals Professional, Consumer and Veterinary versions, including all written and multimedia content
  • Design, features and functionality of all websites and mobile apps
  • Content and design of English print publications.

The EIC directly supervises the Human Manuals deputy editor-in-chief, executive editor, digital publications director and digital content manager, along with the Veterinary Manual editor-in-chief.

The EIC is responsible for managing the budget of the Manuals department and shares responsibility for managing the gold strategy budget with the Director, Publishing Group.

Primary Activities:

  • Identify and manage all necessary and useful changes, enhancements and additions to the content of The Manuals
  • Ensure timely updating and digital publishing of The Manuals
  • Ensure the accuracy and relevance of The Manuals content
  • Oversee the design, features and functionality of all digital versions of The Manuals
  • Work closely with the Director, Publishing Group on foreign translations, publicity and promotions
  • Do editor-in-chief reviews of chapters and other content in The Manuals assisted by the deputy EIC
  • Prepare and/or review editorials for The Manuals
  • Identify and recruit Editorial Board members as needed
  • Manage and mentor Manuals deputy editor-in-chief and physician editors
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, and outside consultants and contributors

Education Requirement:

  • Medical degree (MD or DO)

Required:

  • Completion of residency training, preferably in a patient care specialty
  • At least five years of clinical experience
  • At least five years full time experience in medical writing and editing
  • Demonstrated excellence writing on medical topics for professionals and consumers
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including team, budget, and project management
  • Significant experience with digital publication and design of websites and apps
  • Experience in teaching medical subjects

Preferred:

  • Experience with content management systems and software
  • Experience with digital asset management processes and software
  • Experience and skills with image manipulation software   
  • Familiarity with use of social media for education and promotion
