Director of Endoscopy, Division of Gastroenterology

University of Massachusetts Medical School & UMass Memorial Health Care

Worcester, MA

The Department of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) and UMass Memorial Health Care (UMMHC) seek a collaborative and dynamic physician leader to serve as the next Director of Endoscopy for the Division of Gastroenterology. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a physician to expand clinical programs at one of the nation's leading medical schools and academic medical centers.

Reporting directly to the Chief of Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine, the Director of Endoscopy will lead a group focused on outpatient clinical gastroenterology, endoscopy, and inpatient consultative gastroenterology. The Director will work closely with medical center and system leadership, as well as the Division Chief, championing operational excellence at the inpatient and ambulatory care settings with a keen eye on patient and provider flow, quality, safety, and patient experience. The Director will work closely with the Division Chief to identify and recruit talented physicians and serve as a key mentor for developing the talented junior faculty already present in the Department. The Director will also have the opportunity to pursue their own research interests and participate in the development of the next generation of gastroenterologists through undergraduate, residency, and fellowship programs.

The Department of Medicine, under the new leadership of Dr. David McManus, is focused on leveraging excellent academic opportunities, including well-regarded training programs and one of the top NIH-funded internal medicine research portfolios in the nation, and a patient mix that includes the most complex cases in Central Massachusetts to build upon the prodigious successes already seen in the medical school. The Division of Gastroenterology is a key component in growing the clinical and academic footprint of the Department, and the Director of Endoscopy will have the opportunity to continue the positive forward momentum to lead cutting-edge patient care and research in endoscopy.

The next Director of Endoscopy will be committed to providing superior patient care and strive to improve systems and processes to reach UMMS and UMMHC goals. Candidates must hold a medical doctorate degree, board certification in Gastroenterology, and possess qualifications for appointment to associate professor or full professor at the UMMS.
