Chief of Staff

The VA Loma Linda Healthcare System is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 1a facility serving over 76,000 unique Veterans in San Bernardino, Riverside, & Inyo Counties of Southern California. The Healthcare System operates 159 inpatient beds and a Community Living Center (Nursing Home) with 110 beds. In addition to the Medical Center, VA Loma Linda Healthcare System consists of Ambulatory Care Center, five contracted community clinics and one Telehealth clinic. In fiscal year 2020, with a medical care budget more than $686 million and over 3,000 employees, VALLHCS outpatient clinics logged more than a 900,000 outpatient visits, 1.1 million unduplicated encounters, providing over 63,000 total bed days of care and completed 7,000 total admissions. The Medical Center is equipped with the most modern technology and infrastructure and runs one of the highest efficiency surgical programs within Veteran Health Administration, performing 5,370 surgeries (FY20) in 8 operating rooms. The Chief of Staff has overall responsibility for all clinical care within the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System (VALLHCS). The focus of the position is to assure coordinated patient care delivery and clinical systems management in support of the facility mission and goals. The position reports to the Medical Center Director who will evaluate the incumbent’s overall performance.

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) (comprised of the Medical Center Director, Associate Director for Operations, Associate Director for Resources, Chief of Staff, Associate Director for Patient Care Services, and Assistant Director) the Chief of Staff is a key senior advisor to the Medical Center Director on all clinical issues and assists in the administration and oversight of clinical, educational and research programs.  S/he may serve as Acting Medical Center Director in the absence of the Medical Center Director and participates in selection of key leadership position within VALLHCS.
