Director of Supportive and Palliative Care - in Iowa

The University of Iowa is seeking a physician board-certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine to serve as Director of an established and vibrant Supportive and Palliative Care program. The academic appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor level, either in the Clinician Educator (Clinical Track) or Tenure Track, commensurate with experience. Candidates must have an MD or equivalent degree and have completed an ACGME-accredited Residency Program. A minimum of five years of experience in adult palliative medicine is required; clinical and teaching experience in a multidisciplinary academic medical center program is preferred. Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse workforce/academic environment is required.

The Supportive and Palliative Care Program is based within the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine and has grown substantially since its creation in 1999. It consists of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, supportive care nurses, pharmacists, clinical psychologist, music therapist, chaplains, social worker, and volunteers. The Program also recruits two Hospice and Palliative care fellows each year and provides teaching to a variety of fellows, residents, and students from across the institution. Faculty scholarship includes grant funding and numerous publications and presentations at national meetings. The Supportive and Palliative Care Program also has significant philanthropic support and is working with University of Iowa Healthcare leadership on plans to create a multidisciplinary Palliative Care Institute.
