The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System (EOVAHCS) professional staff is seeking a Full-time Vascular Surgeon for the Surgery Section. The candidate will provide quality service in our progressive, innovative health care system for the Veteran inpatient and outpatient population. The candidate must have a strong commitment to patient care and teaching. Individuals with research interests will find a supportive research infrastructure. Selected candidate will be considered for a faculty appointment at the University of Oklahoma Tulsa and be involved with education and teaching of fellows, medical residents, medical students, and occasionally other providers. The EOVAHCS is located in Muskogee, Oklahoma is the “Flagship” for the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System (EOVAHCS) - a Joint Commission accredited, referral level 1a/high complexity facility serving more than 52,000 Veterans in 25 counties in eastern Oklahoma. The Vascular Surgery Section performs a wide array of open and endovascular procedures with emphasis on complex revisional surgery, limb salvage, aortic aneurysm repair, and AV (arteriovenous) access. Provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examinations, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans to include ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment. EOVAHCS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Oklahoma Tulsa Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Therefore, the selectee must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of Oklahoma Tulsa, Division of Surgery, and participate in the VA and University Division conferences. Preference will be given to applicants who are board certified or board eligible in Vascular Surgery.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, (May be required to work evenings or weekends as a 24/7 Full-Time Physician).

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Board Certification in Vascular Surgery, but Board Eligibility may also be considered

Community Information

Muskogee is river and rail crossroads town with a rich Native American history. It served as an early pioneer trading post and cattle drive stopover. Today, the city of 37,708 is an industrial, transportation, and agricultural center, antique shopping mecca, and the gateway to Oklahoma's eastern lake region.

Four lakes are within an hour of Muskogee: Fort Gibson Lake, Tenkiller Lake, Robert S. Kerr Lake, and Eufaula Lake. The lakes provide unlimited water sports activities, camping, and hiking. Fort Gibson, Robert S. Kerr and Eufaula lakes are popular fishing venues. Lake 

Tenkiller's clear water makes it a top destination for skiing and scuba diving. Three public golf courses in the Muskogee area provide additional outdoor recreation options.

Honor Heights Park hosts the city's annual Azalea Festival each April and holiday light display in December. It is also home to the US Union Agency for the Five Civilized Tribes and The Five Civilized Tribes Museum. The museum features the artwork and artifacts of the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole tribes.

Muskogee is located 50 miles southeast of Tulsa. It is accessible via Interstate Highway 40 and U.S. Highway 69, and the Muskogee Turnpike out of Tulsa. Lodging options are varied and include hotels and bed and breakfast. Camping, cabins, and additional lodging options are available near the areas lakes.
