OVERVIEW

Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, is looking for a candidate to provide medical expertise and oversight of care that is being provided through the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System. The physician is expected to exercise the highest level of expertise in order to optimize quality of care. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles.

Our affiliated, board-certified physicians and healthcare professionals employ advanced medical equipment and state-of-the-art technology to address the communitys healthcare needs, from routine outpatient visits to complex inpatient procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Graduation from an accredited school of Medicine.
2. Current state medical license, current Federal Drug Enforcement Agency license, state controlled substance license and staff privileges at all the hospitals for which coverage is being provided.
3. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
4. Prior leadership experience.
5. Exhibits teamwork skills that facilitate interchange between multidisciplinary health care workers in order to provide quality patient care/outcomes.
6. Superior problem solving skills.
7. Is articulate and an active listener.
8. Addresses issues/concerns with the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in a timely fashion.
9. 1. Board certified or Board eligible
2. Basic Cardiac Life Certification

Medical Director Specific Duties:

The Medical Director is the medical leadership representative for the hospital program or department identified above (Hospital Medicine Program), and performs the general administrative duties for the Program at the Hospital. The Medical Director shall devote adequate time and his/her best efforts to properly fulfill such duties. These duties shall include:

1. Devote adequate time to administrative (40%) & clinical duties (60%)
2. Assist Hospital management with preparation for, and conduct of, any inspections and on-site surveys of Hospital conducted by governmental agencies, accrediting organizations, or payers contracting with Hospital.
3. Hold regular, at least monthly, documented meetings with Hospital providers to review care systems, patient flow, quality improvement and patient and physician relationships.
4. Meet monthly or as often as needed with the CNO or designee to discuss planning issues, quality improvement activities, and patient care concerns.
5. At the Hospital's request, Physician shall assist Hospital's administration in the development of operating and capital expenditure budgets for the proper and efficient operation of the Hospital Medicine Program.
6. Work cooperatively and supportively with Hospital Administration and physicians to assure services are available, cost effective, meeting quality and regulatory guidelines.
7. Be readily available for telephone consultation when not performing clinical or administrative tasks. Physician will designate an alternate or alternates to perform administrative functions when not available so that appropriate direction for the Hospital Medicine Program is available at all times.
8. Assist Hospital in developing and implementing care guides that are consistent with local and national standards and other efficiency tools for inpatient services, including protocols to provide care that can eliminate the need for marginal admissions.
9. Attend meetings, participate in quality assurance and quality improvement (QA/Q1) activities, and educational functions to evaluate and maintain the quality of care of the Hospital Medicine Program.
10. Serves as an advisor to the Hospital's Utilization Management, Case Management Risk Management and Quality Management Departments.
11. Directs hospitalists care coordination to facilitate expeditious and appropriate patient flow management and utilization.
12. Cooperate with Hospital in the preparation of claim forms for reimbursement, and of other appropriate reports on the operation of the Hospital.
13. Oversees and evaluates hospitalist team members clinical, interpersonal, and operational performance, and provides feedback and recommendations to the Medical Staff, campus executives, and Hospitalist Program Management Office regarding hospitalist performance.
14. Address performance issues and provide coaching and development support directly to the hospitalist.
15. Coordinate membership of hospitalist physicians on various assigned committees
16. Participate on Hospital and Medical Staff committees at the request of the Administrator or the Medical Staff, and attend the Department of Medicine and other Medical Staff committees as appointed and/or elected.
17. Make recommendations and assist Hospital in promoting good community relations and public recognition for the hospitalist program.
18. Perform such other responsibilities as reasonably requested by the Hospital or the Medical Staff.
19. Develop and review and amend if necessary a disaster plan for the hospitalist service in coordination with hospital and System wide plans.
20. Develop clinical protocols and guidelines for the hospitalist program in coordination with campus efforts and system led initiatives.
21. Oversee recruiting efforts for the Group.
22. Oversee the credentialing process for new hires.
23. Monitor quality and appropriateness of medical care provided by the hospitalist service.
24. Develop, maintain, and update policies and procedures manual for the group practice
25. Develop and maintain an internal clinical review process for the hospitalist group in coordination and consistent with the hospital clinical peer review process.
26. Be available to respond to and or address clinical patient complaints.
27. Develop, maintain, and update co-management agreements/guidelines where appropriate between the hospitalist program and subspecialty physicians or groups.
28. Attend, or on occasion send a designee to attend MHMD Clinical Programs Committee (CPC) meetings for hospitalists and assist with the implementation of evidence-based protocols approved by the CPC.
