Chief, Division of Geriatrics
Hershey, PA - Penn State College of Medicine (PSCOM) and the Department of Medicine seek an outstanding physician leader to serve as the founding Chief, Division of Geriatrics. This is an excellent leadership position for a dynamic academic leader to shape the long-term vision and growth of this new Division.
PSCOM has served as central Pennsylvania's only medical school for the past 50 years. The institution has a tradition of excellence in education and research that is scientifically and clinically rigorous with a deep foundation in scholarship and humanistic care. Housed within PSCOM, the Department of Medicine is comprised of approximately 200 faculty, 90 residents, 60 fellows and 96 staff members across 10 divisions. The Department has a strong clinical and academic culture, a collegial spirit of working together and strong emphasis on service in the delivery of high quality, patient-centered care.
The Division of Geriatrics was founded due to the philanthropic efforts of the Department of Medicine and generosity of donors. The core mission of this newly established entity is to provide compassionate and state-of-the-art medical care for patients, advance research and train the next generation of physicians through its fellowship program. The Division consists of six providers who drive an institute-wide Age-Friendly Health System across the inpatient, outpatient and post-acute care settings.
The Chief must be strategic and operationally focused to guide the faculty to the next level through the advancement of clinical programs, education and research while continuing to meet and exceed national standards of excellence. We seek a Chief who understands and fosters an academic environment. They will be responsible for the expansion of research, scholarly activity and teaching excellence of the Division. This Chief will raise the bar on medical education and foster a stronger commitment to research efforts within the Division.
We seek candidates with prior administrative and leadership experience gained within a Division of Geriatrics in an academic environment with strong interpersonal and communication skills to complement a passion for excellence and achievement. Candidates must hold a medical doctorate degree, board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with fellowship training in Geriatrics and possess qualifications for appointment to the Associate Professor or Professor level at PSCOM. Candidates with a record of accomplishment of clinical, translational or laboratory based research accomplishments including NIH, PCORI or foundation funding are strongly preferred.
