Behavior Health Medical Director of Banner University Health Complete Care

The Banner Health Insurance Division has an exciting new opportunity to join the growing team of Physician leaders in an administrative, non-direct service leadership role with flexibility to work in part remotely.. Regarded and recognized as a top health system in the country for the clinical quality consistently provided to patients in our hospitals, Banner Health operates 30 hospitals, including three academic medical centers and other related health entities and services in six states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, and Wyoming.
The Banner Health Insurance Division manages over 1 million members in value-based contracts, including ACO models, down-side MA contracts (both full and partial delegation), a joint venture commercial plan called Banner|Aetna, and a fully owned Medicaid and Medicare Advantage Plan. Members in these plans live across Arizona and Northern Colorado, and are managed by providers in many of Banner’s clinically integrated networks (CIN) and contracted providers. The Insurance Division has a Population Health Services Organization (PHSO) that provides services for both our owned health and affiliated health plans.
The Behavioral Health Medical Director of Health Plans will provide leadership related to behavioral health and integrated care. In addition, the medical director will work as part of a team actively using their medical background, experience, available criteria and judgement to make determinations whether requested services, requested level of care, and/or requested site of service should be authorized. They will support peer to peer communication for disputed determinations. In addition, they will utilize their medical background to review Quality of Care (QOC) concerns and make recommendations to the Quality Management Team. As needed, they will support and share expertise with the behavioral health medical management team, quality management team, other departments across the health plan and will support assigned committees as well as attend required committee meetings. They may recommend and help write policies and procedures as well.
Qualifications and Essential functions include:
- Board certified or eligible in general Psychiatry and/or Child and Adolescence Psychiatry
- minimum of 5 years of practice experience- preferred in community-based setting
- Experience in administrative leadership roles preferred
- Willing to work as part of a team serving as a subject matter expert
- M-F with flexibility to work in part remotely; limited call including weekends
- Arizona License Required
- Must live in Arizona
