The Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSU SOM) is seeking a Chair for the academic Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.  The program is a collaborative effort between WSU SOM and the Wayne Health (WH) clinical practice plan. In addition to strong ties with the Perinatal Research Branch of the NIH, the Chair serves as Specialist in Chief for the Detroit Medical Center and has responsibilities for credentialing medical staff, optimizing patient quality and safety metrics that align with the strategic focus of the health system.

The Chair requires the vision and experience to lead a major urban academic Department of OB-GYN, and is expected to strategically expand care, sustain and substantially build research, and enhance training vital to women's health in Detroit and beyond.

The individual will collaborate with Vice-Deans at the SOM and leadership at the affiliated health system to develop and implement short-term action and long-term strategic plans for OB-GYN.

Duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. Recruit, select, and retain excellent faculty that have the skill sets for both personal success and to be a valuable asset to the Department.
  2. Maintain an active role in faculty appointment renewals, oversight of factors for promotion and/or tenure, and assure mentoring for faculty.
  3. Expand and fortify the department's ongoing scholarly activity.
  4. Oversee educational activities of the Department such as supervision of medical student clerkships, electives and sub-internships, sustain academic proficiency for affiliated residencies and fellowships, and cultivate relationships at affiliated hospitals to expand educational programs for all trainees.
  5. Foster relationships with affiliated hospitals and key stakeholders in order to facilitate growth and overall opportunities for the department of OB-GYN.
  6. Competently manage departmental finances to achieve budgetary goals and maintain a positive fiscal balance.
  7. Perform other administrative and job-related duties as assigned.
