This is a unique opportunity to be part of and leading a growing geriatrics team serving Veterans at VA Northern California Health Care System (NCHCS). As Medical Director, Geriatric Section, Geriatric and Extended Care (GEC) Service, this Supervisory Physician is involved in leadership and management of resources, organizational performance improvement, patient and employee satisfaction, environment of care, and strategic planning. The incumbent reports to the Associate Chief of Staff, Geriatrics and Extended Care Service.
The incumbent will lead the clinical staff in the Geriatrics Section, as part of the GEC Service, to achieve the Service's mission and goals. The position will be located in Sacramento, CA and includes responsibilities providing clinical and administrative oversight of Geriatrics/ Dementia Consultation Clinics as well as the provision of primary care in a specialized Geri-PACT, serving complex geriatric patients needing specialty services of Geriatrician led interdisciplinary coordinated services at various NCHCS sites. Two new Geriatrics Consult Clinics are being implemented at the NCHCS two main campuses (Sacramento and Martinez). Current Geriatrics services include two Geri-PACTs at Sacramento and Chico. The incumbent will provide programmatic oversight to the entire spectrum of out-patient geriatrics services across the NCHCS service area, including Consultations and management in the Community Living Center at Martinez. The Geriatrics services are also supported by a Geriatrics specialty team including Neurology, Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Worker, Pharmacist, Nursing, Dietetics, Speech Language Pathology, and PT/OT. The Medical Director, Geriatrics Section, will directly supervise the geriatricians as well as the Nurse Practitioners, and other select allied health professionals on the Geriatrics teams.
Candidates must: 1) be a US citizen, 2) possess a current, full, unrestricted medical license in any state and 3) board certification in family or internal medicine, 4) best qualified will have Geriatric board eligibility or certification and a minimum 2 years clinical and management experience in various Geriatric-based programs or services. Experience in building programs. Teaching experience to Medical Students and Residents/Fellows.
Benefits: 26 days paid vacation (1 day accrued each pay period upon employment); 13 days sick leave (1/2 day accrued each pay period upon employment, no cap); 10 paid Federal holidays/Competitive Salary/Malpractice protection with tail coverage covered by the Federal government/Annual Physician Performance Pay (Up to $15,000 possible)/CME- 1 week paid authorized absence to attend and after 1 year of employment $1,000 per year stipend toward CME if BC/No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
