POSITION SUMMARY
The OB/GYN serves as a member of the CHC provider team providing women s health care services to female patients of the organization. They are responsible for general medical care for women, but also provide care related to pregnancy and the reproductive system. The OB/GYN will focus on ailments specific to the female anatomy, such as breast and cervical cancer screening, urinary tract and pelvic disorders, and hormonal disorders. The OB/GYN also specializes in childbirth, treating and counseling women throughout their pregnancy, from giving prenatal diagnoses to delivery and postpartum care. The OB/GYN tracks the health of, and treats, both mother and fetus during pregnancy. Additionally, the OB/GYN provides consultation to other members of the health care delivery staff. The OB/GYN shall be qualified to serve on the active Medical Staff of hospitals utilized by CHC to provide inpatient services, assume on call after hours duties and supervise nurse midwives as appropriate. The OB/GYN reports to the Department Head of OB/GYN.

- Practice medicine by caring for CHC patients, according to the clinical protocols, as well as the policies and procedures of CHC.
- Develop a plan of care for each patient, including; complete medical history, physical examination, diagnosis and implement appropriate treatment plan/or referral when necessary, including hospitalization when necessary. Maintain patient responsibility and assure continuity of care.
- Documents patient information and care in medical records.

- Ensure the delivery of all medical treatment and care is consistent with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards, including clinical policies and quality initiatives.

PRIMARY TASKS AND DUTIES
- Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical histories, reports, and examination results. Monitor patients' conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
- Medical and surgical management of diseases of the female pelvis, female urinary tract as related to treatment of gynecological disease and complications commonly encountered.
- Perform contraceptive implant placement and removal, IUD insertion.
- Perform breast aspirations, colposcopies, endometrial biopsies, cryosurgery, and marsupialization of Bartholin s cyst.
- Care for and treat women during prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods.
- Prescribe or administer therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
- Perform cesarean sections or other surgical procedures as needed to preserve patients' health and deliver babies safely.
- Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
- Advise patients concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KEY COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of medical model and roles of physician. Familiar with anatomy, pharmacology, clinical medicine and physical diagnosis.
- Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status including state of wellness, and compliance with care recommendations.
- Knowledge of diagnosing and treating medical problems and developing care plans
- Knowledge of documentation in medical records in confidential manner
- Ability to make responsible decisions within scope of practice.
- Possess skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic and emotional patient data and accurately evaluate patient problems in person or via phone and provide appropriate advice, intervention, or referral.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of medicine with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy
- Successful completion of an approved residency program
- Current license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland with unrestricted prescription privileges and current Controlled Dangerous Substances and Drug Enforcement Agency Number
- Board Certified or Board Eligible (actively seeking) in OB/GYN
- No history of Medicare or Medicaid fraud
