ASSISTANT PROFESSOR WITH UNC OB-GYN

The University of North Carolina (UNC) Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is recruiting an OB-GYN clinician-researcher at the rank of tenure track Assistant Professor. This recruitment is coordinated by the UNC Women’s Reproductive Health Research Program (WRHR).  This NIH funded K12 grant supports promising, academically minded junior OB-GYN faculty seeking to develop independent research careers. As part of the program, the successful candidate will receive 75% protected research effort for a minimum of three years. The topical and methodological domains may vary, but should focus on women’s reproductive health across the lifespan and ideally leverage existing research and/or clinical platforms at UNC.  Mentorship is an important component of this program and successful candidates will identify experienced faculty to foster early career development. Multidisciplinary and collaborative science is encouraged. Additional responsibilities will include clinical, teaching, and/or administrative duties, based on the needs of the successful candidate’s primary division.

The UNC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is recognized as one of the nation’s top programs for patient care, education and research.  It provides a vibrant academic environment that includes over 100 faculty, ten academic divisions and eight OB-GYN fellowships.  Our faculty work extensively with other departments, centers and institutes across the university campus, including in the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing and Social Work. We also have an extensive network of domestic and international collaborators over a range of women’s reproductive health issues.

The UNC Department of OB-GYN is a world leader in women’s reproductive health research. It is consistently ranked in the top 10 in NIH research funding among OB-GYN departments, including #3 in 2019. Our engagement in research is broad and cross-cutting. Eight of our ten divisions have active research funding. Over 20 faculty members serve as Principal Investigator or Program Director for competitive research or research training awards. The scope of research is wide-ranging and spans all stage in the NIH framework for scientific discovery.

Educational Requirements:   Qualified individuals must have earned an MD degree and completed a 4-year ACGME approved OB-GYN residency. Both generalist and subspecialist OB-GYNS are eligible for this opportunity.

Qualifications and Experience:  Candidates must be board certified or an active candidate in OB-GYN, with a demonstrated track record in women’s reproductive health research. We are recruiting early stage investigators for this position; those with prior R01 funding from the NIH (or equivalent) will not be considered.
