Cardiothoracic Surgeon
The VA Western New York Healthcare System at Buffalo is seeking a Cardiologist with Thoracic experience to join our team and provide cardiac care to patients to include providing medical evaluation and directing overall management of patients in collaboration with other members of the health care team. The VA Western New York Healthcare System is an active teaching hospital affiliated with the State University of New York at Buffalo. Supervision and education of Internal Medicine Residents and medical students from affiliate schools will be required. You will practice within the scope of assigned and participate in an effective clinical program with attention to patient outcome indicators. You will also meet medical staff criteria for initial appointment and reappointment, including ongoing CME.

Salary Range: $360,000 - $375,000 per year; Education and length of practice will be considered through a formal pay-setting process in determining the final compensable salary.
Relocation/Recruitment incentive may be authorized for highly qualified applicants.
Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:30am - 5pm; On call schedule including weekends will be required.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. - For foreign medical graduates not covered in above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency: Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. OR Non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States, which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.
Board Eligible/Certified in Cardio-thoracic Surgery
Preferred Experience: BE/BC in Cardio-thoracic Surgery and Cardiac Fellowship training.
Physical Requirements: The physician should be physically and mentally capable to perform the duties of the position including examinations, formulate the diagnosis and treatment plan and educate residents. Physical activities include sitting, standing (up to 4 hours) walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending. The incumbent should be emotionally and mentally stable; and capable to perform the duties of the position. Must be highly motivated, team-oriented, and committed to the care and good health for our Veterans. Assistance with payment of outstanding medical school loans up to $200K, if approved! Sign on bonus may be available.
