Washington University in St. Louis, the fourth largest employer in the St. Louis area with nearly 18,000 employees, is seeking a dynamic and experienced physician leader to serve as Medical Director of Occupational Health. This is a career defining opportunity to lead occupational health services for a leading research university with an extensive clinical enterprise. Grants and contracts totaling more than $790 million support faculty research across the university.
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Affairs and CEO of Washington University Physicians, the Medical Director of Occupational Health will provide strategic leadership in establishing policies, procedures and guidelines designed to ensure clinical best practices support the university’s occupational health services. The Medical Director is responsible for the provision and medical management of care for work-related injuries or illness, physical examinations, and medical surveillance and prevention. The Medical Director holds an integral leadership position and will work collaboratively across institutional and organizational boundaries to ensure effective public health strategies for employees during emergency settings including the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Qualified candidates will be an M.D. or D.O. with three to five (3-5) years of experience in occupational medicine, be qualified to secure an unrestricted Missouri medical license and be board certified or board eligible in Occupational Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine; board certification in internal medicine or emergency medicine may also be considered with significant occupational health experience. Experience in oversight and management of environmental safety program desired but not required. Opportunity for faculty appointment commensurate with experience.
