Whatcom County seeks an experienced physician and proven leader to serve as the chief medical officer for Whatcom County. The Health Officer will provide guidance and recommendations for the Whatcom County Board of Health and take actions as necessary to educate the community on public health issues to control and prevent the spread of dangerous, contagious or infectious diseases. This important and highly visible position provides leadership while promoting and protecting the health of the community.
The Health Officer will serve as chief medical officer, reporting directly to the department Director. They are the visible medical authority for the community and will help keep the general public informed about health risks and management. Current work priorities are focused on providing public health leadership for Whatcom County related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Performs applicable duties as delineated in Washington State RCW 70.05.070.
