Basic Requirements:

Physical Requirements:The incumbent should be physically and mentally capable to perform the examinations, formulate the diagnosis and treatment plan, and educate residents. Physical activity includes sitting, standing (up to 4 hours), walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending. The incumbent should be emotionally and mentally stable; and capable to perform the duties of the position.Education

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): This position may be eligible for EDRP, a student loan reimbursement program. Please consult with the Human Resources point-of-contact listed in the "How to apply" section of this job announcement to verify EDRP eligibility. If selected for this position you must submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment services Office.

- Participate in and/or manage all aspects of a general orthopedic surgery program, to include inpatient and outpatient clinical, administrative, academic, and research components if warranted.
- Perform hip and knee joint replacement surgeries, arthroscopies as well as basic fracture work
- Perform administrative duties related to patient care management including: entering progress notes, histories and physicals, discharge summaries, consults, etc.
- Utilize electronic medical records
- Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team including Nursing, Anesthesiology, PAs, Residents and medical support staff to ensure prompt and efficient delivery of patient care services.
- Provide supervision to Orthopedic PAs and Orthopeadic Residents from Rutgers NJMS Orthopaedic Program
- Serve on service level and hospital committees as needed and participate in the facility peer review program.

- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
