Responsibilities
The candidate must meet the criterion for appointment to the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania at the level of Associate Professor or higher and be a recognized leader in their field as a Clinician, Educator and Scholar. The position oversees all Medical Specialty Care offered by our Level 1B major teaching facility.
  • Functioning as a member of the senior leadership team to include advising and reporting directly to the Chief of Staff
  • Coordinating clinical and support services to meet the needs of the patients served and clinicians providing the care
  • Coordinating and integrating programs into a comprehensive package of services to meet the needs of the veterans by establishing policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure continuous comprehensive services
  • Participating in Veterans Health Administration Performance Improvement and Measurement initiatives
  • Overseeing, developing and managing health care services across the Medical Center.
  • Developing and monitoring quality improvement measures to ensure compliance with Joint Commission and all other regulatory requirements and standards
Work Schedule:Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (subject to changes based on Agency need)

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:Eligible for appointment to the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine at the level of Associate Professor of Medicine or higher.

Reference:VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements:Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; walking (3 hours per day); standing (6 hours per day); kneeling (2 hours per day); both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted).Education
