The Southern VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) is seeking a full time supervisory Associate Chief of Staff for Research (ACOS-R). SAVAHCS is a highly complex, tertiary care, state of the art, level 1A academic clinical, teaching and research hospital serving over 65,000 Veterans with a full range of patient care services. SAVAHCS has more than a 50-year history of successful collaboration with its main affiliate, the University of Arizona College of Medicine, in Tucson, Arizona. We have a very strong and positive culture that successfully promotes the clinical, research and educational missions of the VA. We invite those with demonstrated strong commitment to these core missions to apply for this ACOS-R leadership position.

This position provides leadership to a growing Research Service at the SAVAHCS. Our research community includes clinical and basic scientists, including several VA career scientists, available research space, and full administrative support that includes a SAVAHCS based Institutional Research Board (IRB). We are an active site for several VA Cooperative Studies Projects, including placing over 12,000 veterans into the VA's Million Veterans Program. We are the main site for the VA's Brain Bank Biorepository. The Biorepository provides resources for scientists across the US and has a planned expansion to include Gulf War Veterans. The ACOS-R will continue collaborations with the Biomedical Research and Education Foundation of Southern Arizona (BREFSA), a long-standing VA non-profit corporation, to advance VA research and education. BREFSA supports many non-VA funded projects led by VA researchers with projects supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DOD) and Industry. This gives us access to a wide array of funding sources to advance our VA research missions. Our main affiliate, the University of Arizona, is a major biomedical research enterprise that supports and is invested in expanding its collaboration with SAVAHCS Research Service.

Additional responsibilities of the ACOS-R include:
* Management and oversight of the human, animal, health services, laboratory basic and translational research programs at SAVAHCS.
