Responsibilities
The Orlando VA Healthcare System (OVAHCS) is in search of a highly motivated Physician with clinical experience in Occupational Health/ Preventive Medicine. The selectee will provide pre-employment, work related injury or illness, hazardous surveillance screening, preventative health and wellness services, as well as assist in contact tracing for outbreaks. The selectee will perform patient history, complete examinations, physicals, treat injury or illness, and make a disposition with regard to the employee's ability to perform duties. The selectee will approve medications and consultation to specialty services as appropriate; keep records of all cases examined, diagnosed, and treated, keeping in mind the importance of such records for proper care and follow-up of sick and injured employees for the processing of claim for compensation and applications for disability retirement. The selectee will also conduct a variety of physical evaluations of employees to determine their fitness to perform their duties including but not limited to physical evaluations at the request of the employee or management, disability retirement physicals, and physicals for pre-employment, separation, transfer, etc.

The candidate will work for the Occupational Health/Preventative Medicine service but may also be requested to provide services as a float provider for Lake Nona Primary care, women's health clinic, as well as our teaching teams depending on operational needs. Candidate must be willing to travel to other sites when needed. Utilization of Virtual Care Modalities is an expectation of this role, where appropriate. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Providing a full spectrum of preventive medicine and occupational medicine services.
* Applying knowledge of general preventive medicine and public health issues to promote health care and aid in the prevention or reduction of risk of occupational and environmental disease, injury, disability, or death.
* Applying epidemiological, environmental and global health principles in the planning, evaluation and management of the health care worker population.
* Assisting with ensuring programs and policies are in place to protect the health and well-being of employees, volunteers and others and that programs are in compliance with applicable laws, regulatory agency requirements, and VA Policy.
* Functioning as a consultant to Human Resources, Industrial Hygiene, and Safety.
* Assisting with contact tracing and risk stratification of employee exposures associated with infectious outbreaks such as COVID-19 and the Flu.
* May have additional clinical duties as needed in support of the medical center including providing float coverage for all primary care and resident teaching teams.
* The incumbent may have the opportunity to work with a variety of trainees to include Internal Medicine residents, medical students, and would have the opportunity to seek a faculty appointment with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine (UCF-COM).
* Essential qualifications include excellent interpersonal communication skills, creative problem-solving skills, ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, and demonstrated expertise in quality health care delivery improvement.
Work Schedule:Monday - Friday, 08:00 AM - 04:30 PM:May have to work weekends or extended hours based on operational needs.(NOTE: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on patient care needs, including weekends, holidays, and nights.)

Qualifications

Basic Requirements (All applicants must meet the following basic requirements):
* Citizenship:Be a Citizen of the United States.
* Education:Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
* Licensure:Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.
* Residency/Fellowship Training:Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
* English Language Proficiency:Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Preferred Experience:
* Greater than 3 years' experience as an Occupational Health or Preventive Medicine Physician.
* Research and/or GME experience.
* Additional training in epidemiology, public health, microbiology, pharmacology.
* Possesses a strong work ethic, superb integrity, kindness and empathy, and who enjoys working with a collaborative group.
* Has a desire to train and mentor residents and medical students.
* Must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a rapidly growing program.

Physical Requirements:Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This examination is administered by VA Occupational Health. This position requires: light to moderate lifting (15 - 44 lbs.); light carrying (15 lbs. and under); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 2 hours); standing (up to 2 hours); kneeling (up to 1 hour); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); emotional stability; mental stability; working closely with others; and working alone.Education
