Responsibilities
Deputy ACOS of Ambulatory Care:The Deputy ACOS works in a key leadership role with the ACOS to ensure efficient operations, high quality veteran care and innovations in quality and patient safety. Given the multiple initiatives simultaneously being implemented across VANJ Service Lines and within Ambulatory, this role is needed to support staff in transformative change initiatives.

In addition to broad oversight of operations across the Service, the Deputy ACOS is directly responsible for day to day operations of occupational health, otolaryngology, dermatology, virtual health programming and other programs/activities deemed appropriate. This position is supervisory, with no less than 2 Section Chiefs, Specialist providers, and a Nurse Managers reporting directly to the Deputy ACOS. The Deputy ACOS also works collaboratively with the ACOS to develop strategies to support Primary Care, to lead performance improvement and quality initiatives and to provide guidance and oversight in the day-to-day operations of all Ambulatory Care clinics in VANJ's 2 medical centers and 9 community-based outpatient clinics. The Deputy ACOS acts on behalf of the ACOS to represent the service during internal administrative discussions as well as during external surveys. The Deputy ACOS covers in the absence of the ACOS in the Peer Review, ECMS, and Credentialing/Privileging committees. In addition to administrative duties, the Deputy ACOS maintains a patient panel and weekly Primary Care clinic.
Qualifications: Board certified Primary Care Physician (Internal Medicine or Family Medicine) with Primary Care leadership experience, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
