ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, EMERGENCY MEDICINE – HEALTHCARE DISPARITIES AND CLINICAL OPERATIONS

Wake Forest School of Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine has a rare opportunity to join our academic faculty team as an Assistant Professor with a newly-created position to focus on Emergency Medicine Healthcare Disparities and Clinical Operations. As an integral part of our ongoing EM departmental diversity and inclusion initiatives, we are expanding our scope of clinical care activities to focus on healthcare disparities and improving patient care experiences for our community. We have an active Emergency Medicine Operations Group with representation from nursing, pharmacy, radiology, resident physicians and faculty that meets weekly to solve clinical care challenges with a multi-disciplinary approach. The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated interests in diversity and inclusion activities with career goals to focus on clinical operations to enhance the delivery of emergency healthcare services to all members of our community. Supplemental opportunities include formal Master’s level research training for candidates with demonstrated research interests in these areas.

Our Emergency Department has been a Level 1 trauma center since 1982, with numerous specialty accreditations including an accredited chest pain center, stroke center, one of just two burn centers in North Carolina and full subspecialty backup. The co-located Brenner Children's Hospital Emergency Department was North Carolina's first Level 1 pediatric trauma center. Our clinical affiliate physicians staff 13 EDs across the state. Together our Emergency Medicine physicians provide services to over 500,000 patients each year, with patient acuity in the 95th percentile and an admission rate of 30 percent. Our Emergency Medicine residency program is among the oldest in the country, and is highly competitive. Fellowships are offered in Emergency Medicine Research, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medicine Administration/Leadership, EM Ultrasound, EMS and Wilderness Medicine. Our exceptional faculty are highly productive clinically and academically with a well-funded research program, more than 20 active research projects, and a very low faculty turnover rate.
