The White River Junction VA Medical Center is actively seeking a board certified Physician in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. The incumbent will join a team providing comprehensive, compassionate healthcare in the Bennington Primary Care Outpatient Clinic with service to the State of Vermont Veterans Home. The panel of patients will include both male and female veterans with acute and chronic illnesses. The incumbent is also expected to participate in implementing/sustaining the VA Patient Centered Medical Home Model called Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). There is no on-call involved.

The Incumbent will demonstrate proficiency in practice, planning, and self-direction in goal setting for managing each Veteran's medical need.

The Medical Director will provide management and leadership of interdisciplinary patient care services within the Primary Care setting. This position is 80% clinical and 20% administration/management. The Medical Director will work in conjunction with the Nurse Manager to oversee the daily operations of the clinic and will be the first line supervisor for physicians and nurse practitioners assigned to the clinic. The Medical Director will participate in strategic and operational planning, establish workload targets, and review staffing and workload utilization and monitor performance measures.

Candidates must be board-certified in Family Practice or Internal Medicine with leadership experience and have administrative capabilities.

Scope of practice will be within the Primary Care division of the General Medicine Service Line. The incumbent will demonstrate a high level of flexibility and commitment to meet the needs of a complex evolving patient care system and will advocate for quality patient care.

Work Schedule:Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with extended hours one day per week (10:30 - 7:00 PM)

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
* United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
* Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
* Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
* Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:
* Demonstrated leadership experience and administrative capabilities.
* Outstanding professional ability in the practice of medicine or a medical specialty.
* Ability to guide the development and implementation of programs within their respective domain. These programs would include, but are not limited to medical practice, professional standards, personnel issues, and quality and performance improvement.

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP):
This position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.
