The incumbent physician is expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of consultative inpatient care at the Asheville VA Medical Center.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
* Current BLS required /ACLS required
* Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care.
* Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care
* Midlevel supervision within Hospitalist section
* Procedural skills may include arterial puncture, EKG interpretation, Arthrocentesis, Foley catheter insertion, abdominal paracentesis, venipuncture, nasogastric tube insertion, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, intra-arterial line & central venous line placement, and endotracheal intubation.
* Consultative input to inpatient care. Collaborate with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
* Participate in the educational programs for the section personnel as well as the medical staff.
* Participate in monitoring the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level. Miscellaneous activities of the Medical Service inclusive, but not limited to special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Chief of Hospitalists, Chief of Medicine/ Chief of Staff and/or the Charles George VAMC Executive Leadership
* Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at -all levels of the organization
* Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews
* Attend Medicine Service monthly staff meetings and COS quarterly meetings as per bylaws
* Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff
* Participate in Medical Staff committee assignments
Work Schedule:Monday - Friday; including weekends and holidays, 08:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Basic Requirements:
* United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the coursed of study was completed.
* Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
* Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
* Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements:Light lifting (25 lbs and below); use of fingers; walking (3 hours per day); standing (6 hours per day); kneeling (2 hours per day); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; eye and hand coordination; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted).Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.Education
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
