Yale University School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Anesthesiology.

Yale’s Department of Anesthesiology enjoys a rich history of providing exemplary clinical care and is one of the premier anesthesia departments in the nation.  Its service to Yale New Haven Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the nation, is a critical element of the hospital’s #1 Regional Ranking by U.S. News and World Report.  The Department has experienced dramatic clinical, scientific and academic growth. Clinical services are provided in the inpatient and ambulatory operating rooms of all campuses of Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH), Bridgeport hospital, the West Haven VA hospital, and ambulatory sites including Shoreline Ambulatory Surgery Center, The Department ranks #25 (Blue Ridge) in NIH funding and its residency and training programs offer unique opportunities for training and career development in research.

The successful candidate will serve as both Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Chief of Anesthesiology for Yale New Haven Hospital and Bridgeport Hospital. He/she will be an accomplished and recognized leader in the field, one who is an exemplary clinician and teacher, and has a track record of success in research and/or innovation. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a leadership style that is focused on the success of the faculty in all of their endeavors; commitment to the Chair’s role in institutional, as well as departmental leadership; deep understanding of the role of culture in organizational success; and a willingness to be both strategic and tactical in achieving department objectives.  The candidate must be committed to identifying and promoting opportunities for Anesthesiology faculty and trainees to collaborate across the School of Medicine in all three primary missions. They must be passionate about seeking consensus, but not afraid to make difficult decisions or lead change. The new Chair will work with the School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Health leadership on various initiatives to build cohesive departmental alignment. The Chair will be seen as a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of the Department, and the institution. The success of the Chair will be measured in part by success in recruiting, developing, and promoting women and underrepresented minorities.

Qualified candidates are those who: hold a medical degree (MD, MD/MPH, MD/MBA, MD/PhD) or equivalent; are board certified in Anesthesiology; and are eligible for licensure in the state of Connecticut and a faculty appointment at the Professor level in the Yale University School of Medicine.
