Seeking a Physician to join the National Cancer Institute, Community Oncology and Prevention Trials Research Group, Division of Cancer Prevention

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP), Community Oncology and Prevention Trials Research Group (COPTRG) which houses the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) seeks to hire a medical oncologist with clinical and/or laboratory research experience. NCORP is a community-based clinical trials network supported and managed within the National Cancer Institute’s Division of Cancer Prevention.  NCORP, an integral part of the NCI’s National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN), offers community investigators and the patients access to cancer prevention, control (including symptom science) and screening/post treatment surveillance trials as well as health-related quality-of-life studies embedded in cancer treatment and imaging trials.  The 32 Community Sites and 14 Minority/Underserved Community Sites also enroll patients into treatment and imaging studies developed in the NCI’s Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis.  Participation in NCORP also provides entree to cancer care delivery research studies that address multi-level factors affecting access to and quality of cancer care.  Expanding cancer clinical research to a large and diverse patient population treated in a variety of “real-world” healthcare delivery settings allows for feasibility testing of promising new interventions in variable care environments and increases the generalizability and relevance of study findings.  The ultimate goal of NCORP is for improved patient outcomes and reduction in cancer disparities.

The successful candidate will be expected to review and facilitate clinical trial study design for cancer prevention and control trials conducted by the NCORP Research Bases in partnership with the community sites and academic institutions through a cooperative agreement funding mechanism.  Candidates will review the scientific progress of the Research Bases that develop the scientific concepts and provide the statistical and data management for NCORP trials and studies.  The position will be filled at the GS-15 level.         

The work site will be located in Rockville, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C., and is located a short drive or shuttle ride from the main campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

Salary and Benefits
This position will be advertised at the GS 15 level, for which the 2020 pay range is $142,701 to $170,800 per year. Salary will be commensurate with experience. A Physician’s Comparability Allowance (PCA) (approximately $14,000) will supplement the salary. U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants. Candidates must have earned an M.D. or D.O. medical license and board certification in Internal Medicine is preferred with a subspecialty in Medical Oncology. Candidates from oncology fellowships are eligible if research requirements are met.  Candidates should describe experiences in clinical practice, designing or serving as principal investigator for clinical research, or participation in clinical trials (screening, prevention, cancer control or treatment).
