Chief Engagement Officer
Chief Engagement Officer
With nationwide responsibility for improving the health and well-being of all Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) oversees the biomedical research programs of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and those of NIH’s research Institutes and Centers (ICs). As the world’s largest medical research facility, NIH consists of 27 ICs, including the Clinical Center (an onsite research hospital).
Are you an exceptional candidate who can provide leadership to the National Institutes of Health?
This position is for the All of Us Research Program (All of Us), within the NIH Office of the Director. All of Us is a historic effort to gather data from one million or more people living in the United States, in order to accelerate research and improve health. By learning more about individual differences in lifestyle, environment, and biology, researchers will uncover paths toward precision medicine.
The program aims to engage a participant community that reflects America’s diversity, including groups that have been historically underrepresented in biomedical research. With rich and evolving data contributed by participants over time—through surveys, electronic health records, biospecimens, wearable technology, and more—the All of Us research platform will support discoveries that lead to new prevention strategies and treatments for foundational health challenges.
Within the All of Us office, the Division of Engagement provides strategic direction for engagement with stakeholders, including potential and current participants; develops, implements, and enhances consortium capacity-building efforts; and evaluates ongoing engagement and retention efforts to refine the All of Us Research Program’s approach and identify new needs. The Division of Engagement also works collaboratively with program staff and key stakeholders to ensure optimal bi-directional, user-friendly, culturally sensitive, and impactful engagement in the All of Us Research Program.
The Chief Engagement Officer should have the full range of scientific, technological, and governance expertise to lead the development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of diverse engagement activities for one million or more participants of the program. Responsibilities include assisting in building the vision, capacity, credibility, and international reputation of the program to maximize its impact on the health of Americans. The Chief Engagement Officer helps to ensure that all aspects of the program satisfy the highest scientific, ethical, and administrative standards.
This position will be engaged with high-level senior staff responsible for this highly visible, high-priority initiative. Given the critical and complex issues facing the All of Us Research Program, sufficient scientific expertise and leadership are needed to keep abreast of the developments and innovations in rapidly advancing and changing disciplines, including the science, data/informatics, participant engagement, and health policy issues associated with the program. As such, the Chief Engagement Officer must have a record of exceptional accomplishments and vision in one or more key areas related to the All of Us Research Program. These accomplishments should include documented success in tackling large-scale problems using innovative approaches. Applicants should have a proven track record of technical, scientific, and management expertise relevant to the program and should be well known and well respected nationally and internationally for the innovations stemming from his or her work.
We are looking for applicants with a commitment to scientific excellence and the energy, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking necessary to lead a dynamic and diverse organization.
The Chief Engagement Officer must possess unique skills and a broad range of scientific competence, combining knowledge about participant engagement with expertise in participant enrollment and retention, health information technology, and biomedical, behavioral, and environmental research. The Chief Engagement Officer must also be able to deploy this broad and cross-cutting knowledge to ensure the continued development of the research program’s scientific and technical vision.
The successful candidate for this position will be appointed at a salary commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience, and a full federal benefits package that includes leave, health and life insurance, long-term care insurance, and a retirement savings plan (401[k] equivalent) is available.
HOW TO APPLY: Applicants must submit a current CV and bibliography electronically to Ms. Lameaka Johnson, PHR, at firstname.lastname@example.org (301-827-2527). In addition, applicants must submit a supplemental narrative statement that addresses the qualification requirements (not to exceed a total of two pages), and provide the names, titles, email addresses, and telephone numbers of four to five references. Applications must be received by October 22, 2020.
