The Fee Basis Physician (Radiologist) position is located in the Imaging Service, at the VA Central California Healthcare System (VACCHCS), Fresno, CA
. The incumbent shall provide diagnostic radiographic interpretation services during normal work hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work will normally, but not always, be scheduled during these hours. Work hours may vary depending on clinical responsibilities and at the discretion of the Chief of Imaging Service. The Radiologist will oversee and interpret a full range of diagnostic radiographic services providing reading, interpretation, and submission of radiology reports as required by the VA, for both outpatient and inpatient settings, as well as perform fluoroscopic studies.

Duties include provide reading, interpretation and submission of radiology reports as required by the VA. Radiologist shall provide routine and emergent radiology services, provide necessary consultative imaging services to all VA patients referred by the VA. Interprets general radiology (X-Ray), Ultrasound (US), Magnetic Resonance (MR) and Computed Tomography (CT) exams, performs fluoroscopic examinations with the assistance of a licensed technologist. The rates per procedure are listed below.
  • X-Ray - $16
  • CT - $52
  • MR - $75
  • US - $40
  • Fluoroscopic Procedures - $48
This Fee Basis (per diem) position has an intermittent work schedule, meaning it requires you to come in to perform diagnostic radiographic interpretation services on an as-needed/unscheduled basis to fill in when other physicians call in sick or need to take leave. This position is not full-time or part-time and there is no guarantee of how many hours you may work. This position does not allow for any benefits or leave accrual. Fee Basis appointments are temporary and reviewed each fiscal year in September for a determination of need for continued services and an extension of the appointment. Temporary appointments may be terminated at any time based on needs of service.

Note: Appointment of full-time physicians on a fee basis at the same VA facility is not permitted.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:Board certified/eligible in Radiology.
