The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is conducting an international search for a Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine within the Division of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine.

The candidate should be an accomplished clinical leader, nationally recognized with a strong clinical and academic reputation and who has the leadership competencies to further develop a nationally-recognized department.

The department supports a large surgical service and provides anesthesia services in both the operating room and non-operating room locations. The Chair is responsible for ensuring delivery of those services in a wide range of settings; including 40 operating rooms, 18 out-of-OR sites, and our Houston area locations.

The selected individual will be expected to develop a strategic plan to continue the growth of an expansive clinical service with the expectation that the department continues to expand both in scope and reach, while maintaining the world class quality and safety standards currently in place at MD Anderson. In addition to clinical service, the selected candidate will be expected to continue to grow the research and education efforts by the department.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in academic anesthesiology 
  • M.D. or equivalent degree and board certification in anesthesiology
  • Demonstration of clinical and academic excellence
  • Experience in clinical operations
  • Demonstration of leadership qualities essential to effectively inspire their team and promote accountability and collaboration across the institution
  • Proven track record in clinical and/or laboratory research
  • Eligible for unrestricted Texas medical licensure
