We are recruiting clinical and translational researchers to join the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at the University of Pittsburgh.  We have a robust translational research program with Centers of Excellence in scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis, myositis, and lupus.  There are opportunities to expand our research portfolio with outcomes research, bone disorders (e.g. osteoporosis), genetics, microbiome, and vascular medicine to name just a few.

In addition, we have openings for full-time clinicians in our community-based practices.  UPMC, a $20 billion world-renowned nonprofit health care system, has more than 40 academic, community, and specialty hospitals, 700 doctors’ offices and outpatient sites, and many rehabilitation, retirement, and long-term care facilities. UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside is consistently ranked as one of the nation’s best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report; ranked #1 in Pittsburgh, #2 in Pennsylvania, and #15 in the nation.  UPMC is the largest non-governmental employer in the state, with 87,000 employees and $15.6B a year in revenues.  UPMC Health Plan is 3.5 million members strong and is located primarily in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

UPMC Rheumatology is ranked #13 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, and currently operates 10 community based practice sites throughout this region, staffed by 27 experienced clinicians. Our community-based clinical rheumatologists enjoy the ability to interact with their academic and research colleagues as well as to participate in clinical research trials and residency teaching.  We have established practices throughout the region, so you would be joining a highly reputable group of outstanding physicians.

Since 1998, the University of Pittsburgh has ranked among the top 10 recipients of grants and contracts from NIH.  Out of more than 3,400 institutions nationwide, Pitt (together with Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, Magee-Women’s Research Institute, and its other affiliates) ranked 3rd in NIH funding in 2018.

Finally, with respect to personal life, Pittsburgh is a vibrant and growing city, with burgeoning and diverse cultures, ethnic neighborhoods, a booming restaurant scene, 7 world-class theaters, a renowned opera and symphony, a robust public parks system, art galleries and museums, and top-notch sports teams, all nestled in the scenic hills and rivers of the Appalachian Plateau.  Pittsburgh continues to be ranked by both Forbes and The Economist as one of the nation’s most livable cities, reaching #1 in 2014 and ranking #2 in 2018
