Overview

Islands Community Medical Services (ICMS) is seeking a Medical Director committed to providing high-quality outpatient care at our community medical center on Vinalhaven Island, Maine. As an integral part of the management team, reporting through the Executive Director to the Board of Trustees, the provider is responsible for providing and supervising the delivery of all medical care offered by ICMS to the clinic’s patients whether onsite or via home visit.  Such medical care shall include, without limitation: general family practice, adult medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, health maintenance and stabilizing emergency care to all patients, including history, physical exam, diagnosis, and treatment of common ailments as well as health maintenance spanning from infants to elderly and working with underserved populations.

Responsibilities (include)

  • Provide quality medical diagnosis and treatment, approve the procurement, security and dispensing of medications, and participate in annual peer review.
  • Provide clinical support and leadership to the health center providers.
  • Lead monthly Medical Staff Meetings with brief report to Quality Assurance Committee and Administration (as administrative needs may dictate).
  • Provide clinical supervision for the Clinical Director including meeting at least monthly.
  • Provide supervision, chart review and sign-off for Physician Assistants.
  • professional licensing regulations and maintaining a sense of teamwork and good communications among staff.
  • Work with Executive Director to develop practice productivity goals consistent with the overall yearly operational plan, provide input for development and adherence of annual operating budget, and support Executive Director in developing billing and coding process.
  • Work with Dental Director, Executive Director, staff, and BOT to develop, implement, and monitor the annual health care plan that seeks to improve the overall health of the community served and ensures patient satisfaction remains high.
  • Provide, in coordination with the Quality Leader, oversight of QA/QI Program including ensuring the implementation of QA/QI operating procedures and completion of QA assessments, monitoring QA/QI outcomes and updating operating procedures, including acting as the lead clinician for the Patient Centered Medical Home initiative.

Qualifications

  • Must be board certified in Family Practice and possess a valid license to practice medicine from the State of Maine
  • Current BLS, ACLS and ATLS certifications.
  • Experience with the treatment of Substance Use Disorders is strongly desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a, fast-paced health care setting and prioritize competing job demands.
