Director/VP of Research & Development

Targazyme is a San Diego-based clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing novel proprietary enzyme platform technologies and products to improve efficacy, safety and cost of care outcomes for cell therapy. We have multiple assets in our portfolio including a Phase 3 ready SPA designated product in stem cell transplantation and various preclinical stage immuno-oncology assets.

This position will play a key scientific leadership role in developing and executing our immuno-oncology pipeline strategy with proposed target candidate profiles and translational research and development plan. They will also be responsible for strengthening our patent portfolio and will be key in helping us achieve our partnering, financing and grant funding goals. We are seeking a scientific leader experienced in cancer immunotherapy who is hands-on, entrepreneurial, results-oriented, resourceful and fast moving to drive the research and development of our immuno-oncology platform technology and products to the clinic and towards human proof of concept data. This position reports directly to the CEO, and will serve as a key member of the management team. Must have a success track record with delivering major grant funding wins, strategic partnering deals and equity funding and have successfully driven the development of oncology products from pre-clinical studies to positive human proof of concept data.

Desired Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or M.D with specialties in Immunology, Oncology, Hematology, Cell Therapy, Biochemistry or related Biological Science with 10+ years experience
• Comprehensive experience with all aspects of cellular and molecular biology. Have deep experience in discovery research and translational sciences.
• Success track record winning major grant funding and contributing to the closing of major strategic partnering and equity financing deals.
• Successful patent experience ideally with a portfolio of awarded patents
• Strong publication track record
• Hands-on preclinical research experience in animal studies
• Progressive record in the Cancer Immunology and Oncology space including mastery of cell therapy, along with proven successes in translational development
• Highly effective presentation skills
• Strong leadership and management abilities
• Must be results and milestone oriented
• Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, yet highly disciplined start-up environment
