You will serve as a Physician (Emergency Medicine) in the Directorate for Medical Service (DMS) of NAVAL HOSPITAL. Will be responsible for the emergency care, evaluation, and treatment of Emergency Room patients with the scope of clinical privileges, and involvement in the academic Japanese medical internship program.

Responsibilities

  • You will independently perform a full range of Emergency Medicine services to Emergency Department patients, and oversee the care of all patients in the department.
  • You will train department employees and oversee their performance.
  • You will write medical orders for medications, dietary needs, lab tests and medical procedures.
  • You will identify patients who require immediate care and administer patient resuscitation for those in danger of life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks, stroke, etc

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country?s laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to meet any applicable credentialing or privileging requirements prior to appointment.
  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment physical examination.
  • This position requires rotating shift work.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must:

  • DEGREE: Have a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada that is accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. (Note - A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States). Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
  • LICENSE: Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • RESIDENCY: Have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. (Note - graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada).

Applicants must also be able to satisfy clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:

  • Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.
  • Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as an Occupational Medicine Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).
  • No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
  • Board certification is desired but not required.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate that you have at least 5 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Emergency Medicine (e.g., 3 years Emergency Medicine residency and 2 year(s) fellowship and/or experience, or any combination totaling 5 years). This includes, but is not limited to, experience that demonstrates the following: immediate decision making and action necessary to prevent death or any further disability; immediate recognition, evaluation, care, stabilization and disposition of a generally diversified population of adult and pediatric patients in response to acute illness and injury; determining the need for consultation with other specialists; prescribing and dispensing medications; and evaluating the quality of care provided to patients and identifying opportunities to improve care.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certifications. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of the factor must be verifiable via your resume or support documents.
