Norton Cardiothoracic Surgery, a part of Norton Heart & Vascular Institute, is seeking an adult general (noncardiac) thoracic surgeon to join its practice.  Established more than eight years ago, the practice provides comprehensive cardiovascular and thoracic surgical services for Norton Healthcare’s four adult-service hospitals and performs an average of 1,100 surgical procedures annually. Compared with other Louisville-based heart and vascular programs, Norton Heart & Vascular Institute maintains 47 percent of the general thoracic surgery market share. A strong network of referrals is in place through Norton Medical Group, which employs more than 1,100 physicians, including over 300 primary care providers.

The practice works closely with Norton Cancer Institute to provide oncology patients with comprehensive, multidisciplinary lung care including lung CT screening program, smoking cessation resources and an outpatient follow-up clinic. Surgeons are incorporating new minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment technologies, including the use of cesium-131 brachytherapy. 

About the position

  • Adult-service practice consisting of three cardiac surgeons, one general thoracic surgeon, six advanced practice providers and several support staff
  • Competitive compensation model with bonus options and company benefits

  • Participate in a multidisciplinary lung clinic
  • Preferred candidate will be in the process of completing training or have one to two years of completed training
  • Candidate must possess excellent technical skills in minimally invasive surgery as well as surgical management of complex lung, esophageal and chest wall malignancies

Requirements for the position

  • Medical degree/diploma
  • Residency/fellowship certification
  • Kentucky medical license or license eligible

About the Norton Cancer Institute Comprehensive Lung Center

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for men and women in the United States. More people are diagnosed with and die from lung cancer in Kentucky than any other state in the nation. In addition, Kentucky has the highest percentage (26%) of
