This position is appointed by the Yuba County and Sutter County Boards of Supervisors and serves as the designated County Health Officer for both Yuba County and Sutter County
Lead the development of public health policy and implementation of effective public health programs that integrate behavioral health, substance use and homelessness issues to support healthy communities
Identify priorities, public health indicators and action areas to advance collective efforts which improve health outcomes in the Yuba-Sutter community
Engage and collaborate with the medical community for improved health care in our region; and perform related work as assigned
Coordinates across all divisions of the County Health and Human Services departments in order to leverage resources and ensure a systems approach in prioritizing the public health needs of the community
Consults with the Yuba and Sutter County Directors for Health and Human Services, Public Health Administrators and Environmental Health Directors to assist in coordinating and providing oversight to public health programs for the Bi-County region
The incumbent will report regularly to an advisory commission comprised of representatives from Yuba County, Sutter County and the medical community.
OUR COMMUNITY
The Bi-County Region of Yuba-Sutter is situated in the Northern Sacramento Valley, approximately 40 miles north of the State Capital in Sacramento and two hours away from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. The boundaries stretch from the farms and orchards of the valley to the timberlands of the Sierras.
Recreational and outdoor opportunities are plentiful and the area’s Mediterranean climate provides for year-round activities. From hiking to biking through the ‘world’s smallest mountain range’ the Sutter Buttes; fishing the rivers; boating in our reservoirs; hunting; bird-watching at Gray Lodge Wildlife Area along the Pacific Flyway.
In addition, annual events around the County include the Yuba City Summer and Christmas Strolls, the Peach Festival, the Live Oak Festival, 4th of July Parade, the Nicolaus Labor Day Parade, the Yuba-Sutter Fair. With an estimated population in the Bi-County region of 173,213, the area offers its residents the many advantages of a rural lifestyle away from the pressures of the urban areas.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: The minimum and preferred requirements are listed below. While the following requirements outline the minimum qualifications, Human Resources reserves the right to select applicants for further consideration who demonstrate the best qualifications match for the job. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee further participation in selection procedures.
Minimum: Graduation from a recognized medical school with a degree in M.D. or D.O as required to satisfy Health and Safety Code Section 101005 and some experience in health-care administration or management of a medical, public or mental health care program.
Preferred: In addition to the minimum, a Master’s degree in Public Health, experience in a public health agency which included program planning and evaluation, budget management, personnel management and performance evaluation, policy development and providing community services.
Licenses and Certification: The ability to obtain a valid CA Class C driver’s license within ten days of employment; maintain throughout employment. The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment. Possess and maintain State of California licensure as a Physician or Surgeon.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary: The starting salary for the position is $250,000 -- $300,000 annually. Actual salary will be dependent on the qualifications of the successful candidate.
