The Organization

Denver Health (http://www.denverhealth.org) is an integrated, efficient, academic healthcare system that is considered a model for the nation. Denver Health’s Level 1 Trauma Center, in particular, is one of the world’s leading trauma centers and has one of the highest survival rates in the country. This trauma center sees 18,000 patients annually, 2,700 of whom are admitted, and many of whom arrive as transfers from any one of 60 regional hospitals. Denver Health’s trauma service line is academically productive with extensive grant support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and United States Department of Defense (DoD). The seminal text “Trauma” was authored by Denver Health faculty.

As Colorado’s primary safety net institution, Denver Health has a comprehensive and diverse array of inpatient, outpatient, community, academic, and public health services, allowing this health system to serve over one third of all Denver residents as well as patients from outside Denver. Denver Health provides primary care services through a citywide network of community health centers, school-based health clinics, and is now in the process of building a 6-story 293,000 square foot outpatient medical center. Inpatient services are housed in multiple campus venues with 555 pediatric, adult, and OB/GYN beds. Denver Health is committed to serving all patients, regardless of the ability to pay.

Denver Health is affiliated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine. All faculty at Denver Health have academic appointments, and some also deliver care at the University’s campus as well. Faculty have access to the academic and cultural resources of Denver Health and the University.
