The Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Forbes Hospital is seeking a cardiothoracic surgeon to join its existing cardiac surgery program performing approximately 200 cases per year.  The chosen candidate will be a member of the AHN system department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery with Allegheny General Hospital as its hub. The ideal candidate should have an interest in performing not only conventional coronary and valvular heart disease surgery, but should also have a strong interest in performing cutting-edge structural heart surgery procedures, including:  TAVR, Mitral Clip, ECMO, LVAD/transplant, thoracic aortic endografting, and surgery for atrial fibrillation. 

 

The successful candidate will receive an appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with the Drexel University College of Medicine.  The position is a full-time FTE with the expectation that the candidate will perform teaching duties and clinical research commensurate with an academic appointment.  All applicants must be board certified or board eligible in their subspecialty.  The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the state of Pennsylvania, eligible to work in the United States, and have experience in the administrative, teaching, clinical, and research activities of an academic division. 

 

The candidate will be based at AHN Forbes Hospital, but will also have the opportunity to spend dedicated time at Allegheny General Hospital.  Two - four years of experience is preferred, but exceptional junior candidates will be considered. 

 

Located in the eastern suburb of Monroeville, PA, the Forbes Hospital is an ACS verified Level II trauma center and provides tertiary care to patients from the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh extending into Westmoreland County.  The eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh represent a vibrant community located near top-tiered golf courses, ski resorts, hiking trails, and white water rafting opportunities.  With year-round recreational opportunities, safe communities, and excellent schools, the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh are frequently cited as ideal communities for vibrant families.

 

 

Job requirements: 

  • Medical degree – MD, DO or foreign equivalent
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Pennsylvania
  • Completion of an accredited fellowship program
  • Board certification/eligibility in CT surgery
