As a result of continued growth in clinical, teaching and research efforts, the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is currently seeking academic General Nephrologists and Transplant Nephrologists as full-time faculty members in the Division of Nephrology and the Department of Medicine. The position will be at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor and includes individuals with a focus in clinical education and/or clinical research.
Considerable opportunities exist for the right candidate to collaborate with UMMC faculty across a broad spectrum of diseases. In addition to the NIH-funded research led by faculty in the Division of Nephrology, The Cardiorenal and Metabolic Diseases Research Center at the UMMC provides infrastructure for multidisciplinary basic, clinical and population scientists working on the common synergistic theme of obesity, cardiorenal and metabolic diseases. The UMMC Department of Physiology and Biophysics provides incredible opportunities for collaboration that can improve our understanding of cardiorenal diseases. UMMC is also home to several large NIH cohort studies, including the Jackson Heart Study and Atherosclerosis Risk in the Communities Study, that provide epidemiologic to translational science opportunities to study the cardiorenal spectrum. The UMMC Patient Explorer Data Warehouse has data on over 650,000 patients and 19 million encounters including hospitalizations, clinic visits, medications, and laboratory data that are available for outcomes research, big data analysis, or preliminary/feasibility data for other projects. The newly established UMMC Clinical Research and Trials Unit is a state-of-the-art facility for human subjects’ research with 22 inpatient/outpatient study rooms, a research pharmacy, sample processing lab, infusion center and encounter rooms. The UMMC Center for Telehealth is one of two nationally designated Telehealth Centers of Excellence. UMMC Nephrology faculty are actively developing nephrology telehealth programs that will provide novel opportunities for clinical care and implementation science research.
This individual will provide clinical care and contribute to the education of fellows, residents and students in clinics and on the UMMC inpatient service. Creative, adaptive and collaborative skills will be needed to integrate and enhance the network of multidisciplinary providers contributing to the care of our patients.

- Board Certified/Eligible in Nephrology for General Nephrology position
- Completion of AST/ASN-accredited transplant nephrology fellowship for Transplant Nephrology position
- Ability to obtain an unrestricted Mississippi medical license
- Demonstrated success providing quality clinical care and effective teaching, as well as contributions to other scholarship
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
