Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a campus of the Louisiana State University System, is an internationally recognized center of excellence for metabolic research. It sits on an idyllic 222-acre campus within the Baton Rouge Health District, and is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time faculty position in the areas of pediatric obesity, pediatric type 2 diabetes, maternal fetal programming, infant nutrition and growth.

The state of the art facilities include a comprehensive outpatient center and a 20 bed in-patient metabolic research unit staffed 24/7. The center is focused on chronic disease across the lifespan with fully equipped and independent spaces dedicated to neonates and infants, children, and adolescents. The center has 4 metabolic chambers and performs state-of-the-art assessments of body composition, insulin action, energy metabolism, food intake and physical activity. The center has dedicated exercise training and testing facilities, a metabolic kitchen, an ingestive behavior laboratory, a fully accredited clinical chemistry lab, ample laboratory space, and access to numerous core services.

Commensurate with experience and rank, candidates for this position are expected to develop or have a track record of pediatric research with established extramural funding or the trajectory toward extramural funding. Candidates will have the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment among faculty who are using clinical, basic, population, and translational approaches to find triggers and new treatments for chronic diseases. With four NIH Center grants and two T32 Training grants, there is ample opportunity to participate in the training of postdoctoral fellows. Clinical science faculty will be expected to develop and execute clinical trials funded by NIH and similar federal agencies and/or industry.

MD, PhD, or MD/PhD and experience in pediatric research with appropriate publication record. Experience in externally funded clinical trials and prior history of independent grant funding is desired. Interest in obesity, type 2 diabetes, maternal fetal programming, infant nutrition and growth is preferred.
