New York Medical College (NYMC) and Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) – partners in education, research and clinical care – have announced an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished leader in academic medicine to serve as Chair, Department of Medicine and Director of Medicine.

The Chair and Director of Medicine will provide strategic leadership, direction and coordination of administrative, clinical, educational, and research endeavors to the department’s 13-sections and 120-member faculty, and an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency program with 73 residents. The Department of Medicine maintains fellowship programs in Cardiology, GI, Endocrinology and Hematology/Oncology. Westchester Medical Center (WMC), the system’s 650-bed flagship hospital and Level I trauma center, has one of the highest case-mix indexes in the nation, caring for the most severely ill or injured patients in the country. The Chair and Director will report to the Chief Medical Officer of WMCHealth, with a matrix reporting relationship to the Dean of the NYMC School of Medicine.

WMCHealth is a 1,700-bed healthcare system headquartered in Valhalla, New York, with 10 hospitals on eight campuses spanning 6,200 square miles of the Hudson Valley. WMCHealth employs more than 12,000 people and has nearly 3,000 attending physicians. From Level 1, Level 2 and Pediatric Trauma Centers, the region’s only acute care children’s hospital, an academic medical center, several community hospitals, dozens of specialized institutes and centers, skilled nursing, assisted living facilities, homecare services and one of the largest mental health systems in New York State, WMCHealth is the pre-eminent provider of integrated healthcare in the Hudson Valley.

The successful candidate will be recognized as an outstanding leader with an excellent track record in clinical care, teaching and research. Candidates must demonstrate a strong vision for achieving excellence in clinical care and an understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with running a large department within a premier health system. Proven success in the areas of quality, performance management, program development and expansion, faculty recruitment and retention and institutional collaboration within an academic health system is essential. Successful candidates will hold an MD or MD/PhD or equivalent, have completed an ACGME accredited residency in internal medicine, and maintain current board certification in their area of specialty. Eligibility for an unrestricted New York medical license and an academic appointment at the rank of Professor are required.
