Seeking A Talented Chief of Radiology for Excellent VA Staff Opportunity in Beautiful Fresno, CA

Position Information

The VA Central California Health Care System in Fresno, CA is actively seeking a Chief of Radiology Service to help care for our Veterans – American’s Heroes.  Selected candidate will be considered for a faculty appointment at UCSF, Fresno, & be involved with education & teaching of Radiology residents in our residency program plus medical students, medicine residents & other providers. VA Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS), located in Fresno, California, is part of VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN21), which includes facilities in California, Nevada, and Hawaii. VACCHCS is a 114-bed acute care, general medical and surgical center with state of the art primary, secondary and tertiary care in major diagnostic, and treatment specializations. In addition, a 60-bed Community Living Center (CLC) is located on campus and provides skilled nursing and rehabilitation care.

VACCHCS has 40,000 Veterans currently enrolled for health care eligibility and serves more than 28,000 Veterans in six counties in California’s San Joaquin Valley. The six counties include Tulare, Kings, Fresno, Madera, Merced and Mariposa.

The Supervisory Physician/Radiologist (Service Chief) position is located in our Imaging Service at the VA Central California Healthcare System (VACCHCS), in Fresno, CA. The Chief, Imaging Service ensures that radiologic services are available to the medical staff and patients of the VACCHCS. The position involves consultative services with the medical staff requiring knowledge, skills, licensure, and experience of a radiology trained  physician. The position requires knowledge and understanding of safety, imaging procedures, relevant accreditation standards including those of Joint Commission, College of American Radiologist, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The position requires the ability to effectively work with the medical staff and the administrative staff to insure appropriate services are available when needed. It also requires supervision of technical and administrative staff in the Imaging Service. A large part of the above position requires the knowledge of standards of radiation safety and personnel requirements of technical support in imaging. As the Chief of Imaging Service, the incumbent also serves as a clinician and assists with the total care of the patients imaging needs. Major duties include, but are not limited to:

* Serve as a clinical leader in the quality and safety of patient care.
* Oversee and supervise Imaging Service staff which includes administrative duties such as performance evaluations and approval of leave and timecards.
* Assign equitable radiologist duty assignments.
* Develop and adhere to standard procedures and protocols.
* Ensure accurate CPT coding and assignment of workload.
*Ensure compliance with federal statues, VA directives and policies, and The Joint Commission standards.
* Utilize imaging software and ensures timely and consistent imaging report and record keeping.
* Demonstrate leadership in interpreting and supporting the Veteran Integrated Services Network 21 mission.
*Monitor activities which improve patient safety.
*Ensure responsible financial management of the Imaging Service.
* Recommend privileging requirements for the performance of radiologic procedures.
*Review requests for initial/renewal credentials and clinical privileging.

*Must be a Citizen of the United States

*Must be proficient in written and spoken English

*Must have current, full and unrestricted U.S. state license to practice medicine

*Residency Training in Radiology, with Board Certification

 *Meet requirements to obtain and maintain academic appointment with our affiliate university, University of San Francisco (UCSF), Fresno
