Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below.

Preferred Experience: Should be able to perform Bone Marrow Biopsies and Intrathecal administration of Chemotherapy.
Experience with management of acute hematologic malignancies & intensive chemotherapy and alternate sources of blood progenitor cell transplants including cord blood.
Meet FACT Criteria to perform autologous and allogenic blood progenitor cell transplants.
Direct involvement in cooperative group participation, including principal investigator of institution or study.
Active privileges/credentials and clinical activity in this specialty field within the last 2 years.
Experience with adult patients.
Board eligible/certified in Hematology (preferred) and/or Medical Oncology by the ABIM.
Clinical experience in an inpatient Bone Marrow Transplant Unit within the last 2 years and have active patient care duties in
Hematology outpatient clinic setting within last 2 years.
Experience in an academic setting such as teaching in Hematology/Oncology residency or fellowship within the last 5 years. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. Physical requirements include, but not limited to: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), Moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (6 hour), standing (6 hours), repeated bending (2-4 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13' to 16' to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision 20/30, ability to distinguish colors, hearing aid permitted), mental/emotional stability, ability to perform privileges, independently performs physical exams as appropriate to position, and cognitive stability.
