Under the direction of the Director of Medical Services (DMS), the Director of Psychiatric Services (DPS) is responsible for providing oversight of Psychiatric services within University Health Services).

The DPS is a Team Manager within University Health Services (UHS) and has managerial responsibilities of other staff providers.

Candidates for this position must qualify for a clinical track appointment as assistant or associate professor (depending on qualifications) in a department in the UW School of Medicine. Competitive college health service salary negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.

Under the supervision of the DMS, the DPS:

-Demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism and serving underrepresented populations.

-Provides routine psychiatric medication evaluations and follow ups.

-Participates in staffing of Psychiatric consultation shift(s) and provides emergent psychiatric medication evaluations.

-Provides formal and informal consultation to UHS staff.

-Administers and interprets limited assessment measures.

-Follows agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA.

-Maintains accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations.

-Assumes clinical responsibility with other staff psychiatrists, for unit's most complex patients.

-Attends staff, project team, case review, and workgroup meetings.

-Participates in UHS Committees.

-May attend Mental Health sponsored professional development activities.

-May develop formal teaching relationships with academic departments.

-As budget allows, represents UHS on the UW-Madison Campus, in the Madison community, and with local, regional, and national professional organizations.

-Other responsibilities as assigned.

-Evaluates and modifies policies and procedures as needed, according to current mental health standards. Implements current or new policies regarding Psychiatric staff activities and monitors for adherence, usefulness, and effectiveness. Educates Psychiatric staff on its contents.

-Provides administrative consultation for Psychiatric staff and campus partners.

-Provides scope of practice oversight for unit's Psychiatric staff.

-Participates in personnel supervision including goal setting and annual evaluation as part of the Mental Health Leadership Team.

-Provides oversight for requests for transfers of care.

-Ensures that Psychiatric staff maintains accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations.

-Monitors service delivery flow.

-With administrative and informatics support, provides timely reports related to utilization, services provided, and other variables as indicated.

-Develops and implements quality improvement initiatives related to mental health programs and services, such as Peer Review.

-Maintains collaborative consultation with agency Advanced Practice Nurse Prescribers.

-Assists in the development and implementation of evaluations that are associated with mental health programs and services.

-Participates in unit quality improvement activities as required by accreditation standards.

-Facilitates the Psychiatric Case Consultation meetings.

-Member of the UHS Case Review Team.

Required:

MD or DO in Psychiatry

Three years post resident clinical experience required. Experience in college mental health setting preferred.

Licensure or eligibility to become licensed as a physician in the state of Wisconsin. Board certification in psychiatry.

Salary posted is the minimum. Experience will be considered.
