We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible general surgeon for a tenure track position at the University of Michigan. This would be a joint appointment at the Ann Arbor Veterans Affairs Hospital and the University of Michigan Health System; primary clinical activities would occur at the VA Hospital. The Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan, founded in 1850, is nationally recognized for excellence in patient care and education. In addition, the robust research portfolio of the Department yielded the #1 ranking in NIH funding in 2017.
The Ann Arbor VA is a tertiary/quaternary referral center for complex general surgery patients from the state of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. The clinical milieu includes patients with inguinal and abdominal wall hernia disease, along with a broad-based general surgery practice, ideally with a focus on minimally invasive and/or robotic approaches. The Ann Arbor VA has a broad referral base for complex abdominal wall pathology and hernia disease as well as basic and advanced general surgery. The opportunity exists to also include bariatrics as a component of the clinical practice. Additional responsibilities include resident and medical student education in the clinic and operating room and interfacing with endocrinology, gastroenterology, and primary care colleagues regarding hernia, foregut, and bariatric surgery patients.
This is a superb opportunity for a surgeon who wishes to pursue an academic career with significant protected time for research and education. An ideal candidate will have experience with different network models as well as formal training in health services research. The selected applicant will play an important role in helping to improve clinical outcomes and operational efficiency of the surgical services across the growing network of Michigan Medicine.
We are looking for an academic surgeon to join a robust, tight-knit, team-oriented division of general surgery faculty members at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital. Completion of a general surgery residency program is required. The academic rank will be commensurate with the applicant’s credentials. Please send your curriculum vitae to:
