The Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) is seeking talented psychiatrists to fulfill the FHCC mission.

The Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) is a first-of-its-kind partnership between the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense (DoD), integrating all medical care into a federal health care facility with a single combined VA and Navy mission.

Lovell FHCC is located in North Chicago, Illinois, and was established on Oct. 1, 2010 when the former North Chicago VA Medical Center (VAMC) and the former Naval Health Clinic Great Lakes (NHCGL) merged their resources and services. A combined mission of the health care center means active duty military, their family members, military retirees and veterans are all cared for at the facility. The health care center ensures that nearly 40,000 Navy recruits who transition through Naval Station Great Lakes each year are medically ready and nearly 67,000 eligible military and retiree beneficiaries from Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin receive first-rate care.

Comprehensive health care services are provided through emergency medicine, primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in the areas of medicine, surgery, mental health, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. The Lovell FHCC also maintains strong academic affiliations with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.

The Captain James A Lovell Federal Health Care Center is located within walking distance of the Metra's Union Pacific/North Line. The Union Pacific / North Line (UP-N) is a Metra line in the Chicago metropolitan area that runs between Ogilvie Transportation Center in down town Chicago and Kenosha, Wisconsin.  Located 10 minutes from Lake Bluff to the north and Gurnee to the Southwest both areas have top ranking school districts and are short commutes to North Chicago with great shopping opportunities like the Gurnee Mills Outlet Mall and the robustly developed down town area of Lake Bluff with its restaurants and small shops.

Staff Psychiatrist provides a broad spectrum of psychiatric treatment and will serve as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary team in managing an inpatient/outpatient panel.

Responsibilities include:

• Psychiatric assessment
• Psychiatric diagnosis
• Psychiatric treatment planning
• Psychiatric treatment to mentally ill veterans, recruits, students, active duty personnel, dependents, retirees
• Medication Management
• Consultation to the Navy Brig upon request
• Completion of fitness for duty evaluations for all active duty personnel
• Psychiatry resident education/teaching activities
• Participation in Physician Peer Review
• Participation in Performance Improvement activities
• Participation in facility committees as assigned
• Participation in research
