The Opportunity:

Ob Hospitalist Group has partnered with this facility to develop and manage a program that provides 24/7 emergent care to expectant mothers.

As an OBHG hospitalist, you are the in-house expert whose advanced clinical skill and ability to handle any OB emergency dramatically improves patient safety and satisfaction.

You will work closely with local OB/GYNs to ensure that every pregnant woman who presents to the hospital is cared for by an experienced physician, every time.

Hospital Information

Mercy Medical Center currently performs approximately 1,450 annual deliveries and sees roughly 1,700 annual unscheduled outpatients. The hospital is a designated Anthem BlueCross BlueShield BlueDistinction Center for Maternity Care and the only Three Star Hospital in Stark County, Ohio, in the First Steps for Healthy Babies program - an initiative of the Ohio Hospital Association and Ohio Department of Health that recognizes hospitals for their work to support breastfeeding.

Mercy has also taken a leadership role in infant mortality prevention through community outreach, safe sleep training for mothers, and distribution of the Halo® SleepSack®. It's a level II facility prepared to handle all mother-baby emergencies, with a Special Care Nursery and neonatology on call around the clock.

The faciity offers maternal-fetal specialists, childbirth education classes, and comprehensive family-centered maternity care.

The Location

Canton is located approximately 60 miles south of Cleveland and 20 miles south of Akron. The city lies on the edge of Ohio's extensive Amish country, and is the largest municipality in the Canton-Massillon metro area, which includes all of Stark and Carroll counties.

The climate includes all four seasons, with warm summers, brisk beautiful autumns and snowy winters.

Arts and Entertainment

Residents and visitors explore wineries - such as the popular Gervasi Vineyard, breweries, distilleries and unique local restaurants, or explore the great outdoors in the region's beautiful parks and along the extensive network of trails that cover the Northeast Ohio region.

The city offers many national historic sites, numerous art museums, galleries and public art, theaters, live music, concerts and festivals. The downtown area is currently experiencing an urban renaissance, anchored by its thriving arts district which holds 'first Friday' events each month. Several historic buildings have been rehabilitated and converted into upscale lofts, attracting thousands of new residents into the city.

Canton is notable as the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame - which honors players through permanent and traveling exhibitions - and the birthplace of the National Football League. It's also located in the county known as "Ohio's golf capital."

Education

Canton's K-12 students are primarily served by the Canton City School District. There are several Catholic schools in Canton, along with a Christian school, private preK-8 school, and the Canton Montessori School.

Higher education options include Malone University, a private, four-year liberal arts college, the Catholic-run Walsh University, Stark State College and a branch of Kent State University. Downtown Canton also houses a Stark State College annex where high school students are able to take college courses.
